FAQs

• Do I need to include the mother’s sample?

Our home paternity test can be performed without the sample of the mother although we recommend the inclusion of the mother’s sample when available. In cases where the mother’s samples are included, the result will provide a probability of paternity of 99.99%+. When the test is motherless, the percentage for inclusion is slightly lower and will normally be 99.9+%. Both the test with mother or motherless provides the necessary accuracy to resolve any doubts.

• Can I use the results for legal purposes?

Please note that the home paternity test cannot be used for legal purposes since the sample collection is not witnessed and verified by a neutral third party. If you need results to stand in a court of law, you will need a legal paternity test.

• How does a paternity test work?

Once the laboratory receives your samples, they extract the DNA and proceed to analyze 21 loci on the DNA samples provided to conclude the paternity test. A locus is a location on the DNA molecule. They compare the 21 loci between the alleged father and child and, where available, the mother. If the alleged father is the child’s true biological father, then they will share the same genetic markers and the results will be an inclusion. If there are loci which do not match then the result will be an exclusion.
